It was time for a new vacuum cleaner, so as usual I spent a little time researching. Apparently cylinder vacuum cleaners are more reliable and effective than upright vacuums in a Which? test on vacuums cylinder wiped the floor with uprights. Which? Magazine rated these as the best to come through their testing:

Bosch BSG 71810 GB Formula
Bosch BSG 82000GB Ergomaxx
Electrolux ZO 6352 Oxy 3 System
Miele S571
Miele Xtra Power 2300
Miele S4210

The tests were done on carpeted and flat flooring. They also judged the filtration (how much dust was leaked back into the room) and also the reliability. It was recommended to stay away from Dyson’s as although they are excellent at cleaning they have a high rate of breaking down and requiring fixing. Now it’s no surprise to see Miele and Bosch hitting the top 6. Both of the manufacturers are known for reliability, which is not surprising when you consider they are both German.

My Mother has had a Miele for years and it’s an excellent little cleaner, but they tend to be quite pricey. But I can highly recommend those, they look good too! In the end I opted for the Bosch Formula Pro Pets Vacuum BSG72025 off the back of the good Bosch reviews and I must say it’s a great vacuum. It cost me £100. It comes with a turbo brush attachment which sweeps up pet hair no problem. It work equally well on flat or carpeted floors. There are handy attachments stored in a neat compartment. It’s a lot quieter and lighter than my last vacuum and cleans much better. All in all I think I chose right!
